MTS Glonass 945

A couple of weeks ago I took the Glonass 945 for testing the MTS - the first "Russian" phone equipped with a GLONASS receiver. I took the word “Russian” in quotation marks, since, like under a shirt with this phone, a heart full of love for rice - the phone is completely made at ZTE factories.

What I saw so depresses me that I did not dare to share my depression with you for two whole weeks. GLONASS is certainly very important for our country. In the event of an armed conflict (pah-pah-pah, of course), the United States simply closes the shop with GPS or corrects something there and our military equipment will no longer be guided by the target, and even quite peaceful devices will go crazy.

The MTS 945 phone is not the pinnacle of Chinese thought, it’s a rather inconspicuous smartphone, a 3.2 megapixel camera, 130MB of memory (plus a 2GB card), a capacitive TFT screen, completely blind, just go outside, 240 × 400 pixels, 262 thousand colors. For the phone, the main feature of which is navigation, such characteristics of the screen become a fat minus.

On board, as expected, "Android". They ask for this magnificence more than 10 thousand rubles.

With software, everything is also very bad (I'm not talking about “Android” now).

Somehow I was immediately embarrassed that no program I installed saw more satellites than my Nexus One. It turns out that the GLONASS satellites are not visible through the GPS API "Android" (well, this is the GPS API!), As it would be logical to assume. For GLONASS, a separate API is used, about which third-party navigation programs have no idea.



However, a certain “Navigator” is preinstalled on the phone, which only works when there is an Internet connection and only (sic!) Through the MTS SIM card. WiFi does not suit him. The program is ugly, but only she still knows how to work with GLONASS.

I have to admit that the accuracy when using GLONASS + GPS is really higher, though it is unimportant. I spent a couple of weekends with two phones, with the MTC 945 and my Nexus. Where the Nexus showed an accuracy of 4 meters, the MTC showed one meter. How the latter copes with the re-reflection of the signal from the houses, I could not verify, could not provide suitable conditions.

Summarizing, we must admit that the first pancake came, of course, a lump. Let the GLONASS chip appear in some next Nexus 4G or there Samsung S3, as a competitive advantage, and not a way to remove more cabbages from the buyer, it won't hurt the same. But I would not have bought what turned out at MTS. Not for that kind of money. Truth be told, not for any money. I can not use such a smartphone, but as a keychain, it is too big.

I wish MTS to release the next phone model with GLONASS, more thoughtful.
