"One hundred dollar laptop" will be twice cheaper

People have been arguing about the relevance and usefulness of the OLPC project (One Laptop Per Child - each child’s notebook) for more than a year. Well, the ideological inspirer and, in fact, the main steering project Nicholas Negroponte, in the meantime, continues to sign contracts with developing countries for the supply of inexpensive laptops OLPC XO and even promises to soon reduce the cost of these.

Today, as you know, the cost of a single XO laptop is far from $ 100, but a bit more, which is why skeptics have long chosen the project. By the way, Indian officials recently joined the camp, refusing to enter into a contract with OLPC for the supply of a million cheap laptops. However, Negroponte and his comrades do not give up and continue to promote their idea in all possible ways. In particular, they promise cheaper XO. This was stated by the technical director of the project, Mary Lou Jepsen, who promised to reduce the cost of the laptop up to $ 50 apiece. However, only by 2009 - skeptics for joy. To achieve such a low mark, XO manufacturers hope by reducing the cost of the display used in the laptop. But exactly how it is planned to do - no one reports.

Frankly, all this is very similar to the next marketing move of OLPC, of which a lot has already been done. Nevertheless, Quanta Computers has long since begun production of XO laptops, and the number of orders from the target audience is growing - everyone is happy. Only here the grateful comments from the children, for whom this noble mission was started, have not yet been heard.
