This week, Google announced that all Google Chrome users who want to use the Gmail Offline feature will have to do this with older versions of IE or Firefox.

On Tuesday, support for Gmail Offline on Chrome, IE9, FF4, Safari and Opera was discontinued.

The temporary suspension of the service was announced about two months ago, when the company announced that Gmail Offline will soon work not on Google Gears and its outdated plugins, but on HTML5.

The message to users says that from Tuesday (May 24) it will be impossible to use Gmail Offline (working with Google Gears).

Until Google translates Gmail Offline to HTML5, anyone who used the feature before is recommended to use IE8 or Firefox 3.6

Google plans to set up Gmail Offline HTML5 this summer.

“We understand that we are creating a temporary interruption of the service, but we will try to do everything as quickly as possible and soon will give users the opportunity to start working in the new Gmail Offline using Chrome.”
