Today, Digium has notified its customers of the termination of sales of its proprietary product Skype for Asterisk from July 26 (literally, Skype for Asterisk). Skype for Asterisk was delivered as a separate module to Asterisk and allowed, in fact, as the name suggests, to integrate Skype-transport into Asterisk.

Skype for Asterisk was developed by Digium in collaboration with Skype. The product includes proprietary software that allows Asterisk to join the Skype network as a native client. Skype has decided not to renew the contract, which would allow us to include this software in the product. Therefore, sales and activation of "Skype for Asterisk" will be terminated on July 26, 2011.

The change should not affect existing users of Skype for Asterisk. Skype representatives assured us that they would continue to provide support for the Skype for Asterisk software for another two years, as indicated in the agreement with Digium. We expect that users of Skype for Asterisk will be able to continue using their systems with Asterisk on the Skype network at least until July 26th, 2013. Extension of the term is possible at the discretion of Skype.

Skype for Asterisk will remain on sale until July 26th, 2011. Please complete all scheduled purchases and activation before this date.
