Most likely, the fifth iPhone will have a curved glass display, like the Samsung Nexus S, according to the latest rumors. For this, Apple purchased 300 glass processing machines.
A new type of display will mean that Apple really decided to redesign the device. It remains unknown whether the display will be curved inward, as in the Nexus, or will become convex.

The previous generation iPod Nano was also equipped with curved glass (but without a touch screen). Nexus S was positioned as the first smartphone with a curved screen, which "is more convenient to use, as it repeats the shape of the face."

For the manufacture of such screens, Apple has already begun negotiations with suppliers of touch sensors, glass, as well as with specialists in its cutting and laminating. As for additionally purchased glass processing machines, they were acquired for the period “when the demand for such screens exceeds supply”.
Other expected improvements are the dual-core A5 chip, the increase in RAM and the use of the camera by 8 megapixels.
