On Thursday, Microsoft
began to take evasive actions to avoid the established provisions of the newly adopted version of the General Public License.
Microsoft made a
statement declaring itself to be a company not participating in the GPL 3. Certificates sold to it, which entitle customers to support Suse Linux Enterprise Server, will no longer be supported by Novell or anyone else included in the software package licensed GPL 3.
"At this point, in order to avoid any doubts and legal debate on this issue, Microsoft decided that Novell certificates that we distributed to customers would not give the right to receive any support and updates from Novell and other parties on products related to the code under the GPL license 3 "- says Microsoft, leaving the door open for further revision of this position.
GPL 3, published last week, is a major update to the most commonly used license in the field of Opensource programming.

Microsoft's move is a reaction to the situation in the GPL 3, which, in accordance with the Free Software Foundation, states that Microsoft’s patent protection for Suse Linux users automatically extends to any software users in this package that is licensed under the GPL 3.
Microsoft opposes this position and believes that the requirements of the Free Software Foundation are not legally binding.
