Microsoft will spend more than $ 1 billion to repair Xbox 360 consoles

Yesterday, Microsoft announced that the repair of defects found in Xbox 360 gaming consoles would cost the company $ 1.15 billion. Perhaps this is the most expensive repair under consumer warranty.

Recall that Microsoft received numerous complaints from gamers whose console refused to start, highlighting the power button with three red lights. Bloggers dubbed this problem the “Red Ring of Death”, similar to the “Blue Screen of Death” that appears when Windows “crashes”.

So far, the software giant has not named the exact number of corrupted devices, but Robbie Bach, head of the Microsoft Entertainment & Devices Division, said that this is “an unacceptably huge number of fixes”.

Microsoft says it intends to spend on repairing consoles and reimbursing buyers (those who made repairs at their own expense will be refunded) about $ 1.15 billion. The company is also going to extend the warranty period to three years. Previously, US residents were given a one-year warranty, and Europeans a two-year warranty.
