Beijing and Moscow - Spam Capitals of the World

Beijing ranked first in the world in the number of viruses spread. According to Network Box statistics , about 40% of all viruses that passed through the company's servers in June 2007 are of Chinese origin, just like 5.25% of world spam. The Russian capital is in second place among spammers with an indicator of 5.12%. This is followed by Seoul (3.58%), Istanbul (3.4%) and London (2.47%).

The leadership of China and Russia is due to a large proportion of unlicensed programs that are not updated and therefore easily vulnerable to malware. Thus, it is the Russians and the Chinese who are best suited for forming an army of bots, zombie computers. The owners of botnets can be foreigners.

It should be noted that the virus flow from China doubled in just one month. Back in May, 21% of all viruses came from the Middle Kingdom, and already in June this figure rose to 40%. Over the same period, the percentage of spam dropped from 11% to 5%.

Wattleup (a suburb of Perth, Australia) and Madrid, with 2.5%, are on the list of the most viral cities after Beijing with a rate of 3.7%.

The percentage was calculated by analyzing the logs on the servers of seven hundred clients that use the Network Box firewall. About 4 million copies of malicious code a day pass through it (or not).
