The popularity of gadgets increases the need for electricity

Flat-screen TVs, computers, and other high-tech gadgets by 2020 will use almost half of the electricity supplied to homes in the UK. This is the conclusion reached by the energy saving authorities.

Energy Saving Trust (EST), the state-owned non-profit organization in the UK, said that consumer electronics for energy consumption is catching up with kitchen and lighting appliances.

The report of The Ampere Strikes Back said that modern devices are more “voracious” than old devices, and are increasingly in idle mode, instead of being turned off. Some devices do not have a shutdown button at all.

In 1982, only 3% of families had home computers, against the current 60%. Over the same period, the number of printers has grown from 0.7% to 58%!

Nowadays, houses increasingly have more than one TV, and people buy TVs with large screens and the resulting large power consumption. It is estimated that by 2020, televisions will consume 1.4% of all household electricity.

Despite the attempts of some manufacturers to produce devices with reduced power consumption, some digital radios still use up to four times more energy than analog ones.

The growing number of people living in the house alone increases the number of household appliances: televisions, game consoles, computers, digital radios, TV and audio recorders ... Naturally, this leads to a huge increase in energy consumption.

The organization says that every British person can save £ 37 a year if they start turning off unused appliances from the outlet.
