What happens if your hard drive dies?

Hello.

Today my disk (rucial SSD C300) had a strange glitch - after a normal reboot it stopped being visible to the system. Not only was it impossible to boot from it, it was not even visible in the BIOS on any computer to which I connected it.

If it was a normal HDD for a couple of thousand rubles, there would be no problem - the old one threw it out, put in a new, periodic back-ups. But this piece of hardware costs $ 600, agree - serious money for the drive, and throwing it away after 4 months of operation is damn sorry. But there is a guarantee, you can always return the piece of iron to the seller, a couple of months to suffer and get your money back. Files to recover from backups and live on happily.
')
But there is one very big BUT - what will happen to your data when (if) they fall into the wrong hands? For example, I have all the working materials on this disk - source of projects, access codes, notes, mail, etc. If suddenly the service worker still restores the piece of iron, he can get access to almost everything I've been doing for the past few years, and how he will use it - we can only guess.

As a result, two options - or take the drive to the service and hope that he died irrevocably, or accept and buy a new one.

What would you do?

PS: Fortunately, the disk came to life itself after two dozen reboots, it saved me a lot of time, money and nerves. Now I encrypt the section with a bitlocker :)
