When we wrote a
post about our department, we mentioned that the online student programming competition ABBYY Cup will be held in May. It is time to talk about it in more detail.
ABBYY Cup kicks off on Sunday May 15 at 10:00. Any student can try his hand at it. Participants will be offered five tasks of varying complexity, the solution of which is given eight hours. As in any other programming contest, in order to earn maximum points, you will have to not only solve the problem, but also meet certain time and memory limitations.
Solutions will be evaluated using automatic tests - the more of them your program passes, the higher the score. To eliminate offensive errors, during the Olympiad, you can test your code on open tests. It is recommended to solve problems in C / C ++. In principle, you can choose another language (Pascal, Ruby, Python, Perl, Java), but note: we do not guarantee that there will be a solution for it that can pass all tests (and, accordingly, score the maximum number of points) !
Do not hesitate long to participate or not! Just
register and wait for the competition to start. ABBYY Cup is not a way to test sports programming skills. Rather, it is an opportunity for students who have never participated in such competitions and who are not familiar with the format of olympiad programming, in a relaxed atmosphere, not hurrying to think about non-standard tasks, to offer their solutions. If you do not manage to solve something to the end, send your code anyway. Almost all problems have partial solutions for which points will be awarded.

Well, we inform those who are set for a high result - in addition to valuable prizes, ABBYY Cup participants will have the opportunity to visit our company, as well as to count the results of the Olympiad as entrance tests for the selection of the “Image Recognition and Text Processing” department at MIPT or during employment in ABBYY.
