Russian Wikipedia 10 years!

Somehow imperceptibly for all of us, the anniversary of Russian Wikipedia , which today, on May 11, 2011, turned exactly 10 years, has arrived. Ruviki was created on May 11, 2001 , along with several other Wikipedias at russian.wikipedia.com.

I think that for the whole world Russian Wikipedia has become one of the well-known achievements of Russia and the Russian-speaking world almost on a par with the flight of Gagarin and the victory in the Great Patriotic. Wikipedia is proof that there are many smart people in Russia who can do amazing things of the world level. Finally, for the first time in human history, the most accessible encyclopedia in Russian has appeared, in which an invaluable amount of knowledge is collected. And what a blessing that this encyclopedia turned out to be (or rather, we made it so) free as freedom of speech (currently under a Creative Commons BY-SA 3.0 license), i.e. continues the glorious traditions of GNU / Linux, Firefox and OpenOffice (well, now LibreOffice). And how much more we have to do! Good luck and patience for the next decade!

Sue Gardner , head of the Wikimedia Foundation, congratulated the participants on this holiday: “ I congratulate all those who have contributed to Wikipedia in Russian in the last 10 years. It is because of your hard work and dedication that millions of Russian-speaking people around the world have access to important information in their own language. The work you are doing is wonderful, and I hope that even more people will take interest and become involved in ensuring the continued growth of the Russian-language section of Wikipedia . ”

It is recommended to read the article about the glorious and sad pages of the history of the section: an article about Russian Wikipedia , the history of Russian Wikipedia , another history of Russian Wikipedia and another article about Russian Wikipedia .
