Radar Networks launches social service on the Semantic Network

Businessweek magazine published an article about one of the startups developing systems based on Semantic Web technologies. This is a Californian startup Radar Networks .

This summer, Radar Networks plans to launch a closed beta test of its system, and an open beta will appear in the fall. According to experts, this event should attract the attention of techno-elites, because there are no such developments on the Internet yet. The company does not disclose all the details, but it is known that the web service will use the Semantic Web technologies to extract and classify information from websites, blogs and social services like Youtube. The built-in artificial intelligence engine will constantly study the behavior of users and adjust the system to their needs, that is, self-study.

As is known, the Semantic Network (or the Semantic Web ) is the basis of the global concept of Internet development, the purpose of which is to realize the possibility of computer processing of information available on the World Wide Web. In other words, computers can finally understand human language and analyze information at the level of semantic concepts, and not at the level of individual words.

The W3C consortium and personally Tim Berners-Lee have been working on the Semantic Web technologies for quite a long time. The development has been so prolonged that the Semantic network is already becoming an object for ridicule on the part of some wits.

Despite criticism, experts suggest that within the next five to ten years, such “machine readable” structuring of information on the Internet will become the basis for creating search engines of the new generation and other innovative technologies. We feel the onset of the new epoch now: after all, the same tags (thematic tags) on the social sites of the new generation are another way of high-level structuring of information, very close in meaning to the Semantic Web technologies. Each of the social services allows you to export these tags, so that it is possible to create some kind of information network where the information will come from different sources. Radar Networks, Metaweb Technologies and other start-ups working in this area are trying to do something similar.
