A simple solution to problems with Flash in Ubuntu

Most Ubuntu users have already become accustomed to the outrageously working Flash that comes in the flashplugin-nonfree package. Personally, release after release was disturbed by various problems, there was a flash of flash drives, a click on something in the flash drive worked through time, in general, unstable work and stable brakes. In Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal in my case, Flash behaved so disgustingly that it was impossible to use them. But just a week ago I came across a simple solution that at once saved me from all the problems with flash on my configuration. The most remarkable thing - it was noticeably slowed down by 480p video in fullscreen, now even 1080p plays perfectly smoothly.

Panacea

I present to your attention the add-on for Firefox Flash-Aid . Judging by the reviews on the supplement, thanks to him, Flash works better not only for me. And not only on x64. And not even in Firefox! If you use Chromium, it is possible that your problems with Flash will also be resolved.

The principles of the plug-in are very simple, it selects the appropriate Flash version for your system, turns on hardware acceleration, and selects the optimal settings for your configuration, and then generates a Shell script that can be executed directly from the add-on window by clicking the Execute button.

Step-by-step instruction

Attention! Flash has completely ceased to work for many habraudeas, therefore instead of the “Execute” button we click “Test”. If you have already broken Flash, after listening to my stupid advice, remove the add-on and reinstall the flashplugin-nonfree package again.I hope this solution will help you as much as it helped me. The results are written off in the comments, not forgetting to specify your configuration. In my case, this is Ubuntu 11.04 x64, a GeForce 460 video card with a proprietary driver.

Alternative solutions

roman_tik offered an alternative solution for installing Flash in Ubuntu x64 using a PPA repository. To install Flash in this way, do it in the terminal:

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:sevenmachines/flash sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install flashplugin64-installer

Also in the comments there were positive comments on the work of the Flash plugin from the adobe site .

Ps. You may also be interested in the FlashVideoReplacer add- on from the same author, replacing Flash-video on some sites with a system player.
