The YouTube team is paying more and more attention to films: a large selection of
movie trailers is available, various independent films can be viewed in the
Screening Room , last year the opportunity to rent films from the Sundance Film Festival was announced, and this year the movie “
Life for One Day "- a documentary about one day on Earth, filmed by thousands of YouTube users.
On Monday, it was
announced the addition of three thousand full-length feature films from major Hollywood studios, which will be available for rent in the United States at
youtube.com/movies .
In addition to the hundreds of free movies available on the site since 2009, users can find and rent their favorite movies. From iconic hits such as Golf Boy, Glorious Boys, Scarface and Taxi Driver, to new blockbusters such as Beginning, King Says, Meet the Fockers 2 "Green Hornet" and "Despicable Me."
')
Films can be rented at standard prices for such services ($ 3.99 for most new films and from 2.99 for old ones), and you can watch them in your YouTube account on any computer. The user will have 30 days to start watching the ordered film and 24 hours to finish. Films will begin to appear today and in the coming weeks at
youtube.com/movies .
But the feelings from watching movies with users will not begin and end with one movie. For many films, so-called “Movie Extras” will be added - free videos off-screen, interviews with actors, parodies, clips and remixes from the YouTube community. The pages of the films will also feature reviews of these films from the Rotten Tomatoes review site.
The emergence of the service was the result of cooperation with Sony, Warner, Universal and Lionsgate. Many reviewers write that Google is gradually turning YouTube from a home-video platform into quality hosting of full-length movies. Thus, YouTube is starting to compete with Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and Apple.
Alas, as I mentioned above - only for US users.
