Sony online services take longer to recover

The other day, Sony 's management announced that restoring full-scale online services, PSN, Sony Online Entertainment and others, takes more time than previously thought. All this is due to the hacking of the notorious Sony Online Entertainment. In general, the situation is most dismal for Sony - probably, many clients of the company will prefer not yet compromised services of competitors, such as Xbox Live. So far, there are no data on how many Sony customers have stopped using PSN services and other online services. This is understandable - after all, to obtain such statistics, it is necessary to return services to work, all sorts of polls there and so on will not give the desired results.

But back to the problem with Sony Online Entertainment. According to Patrick Saybold, Senior Public Relations Manager at Sony Computer Entertainment America, SCOE is now being tested, and as part of this test, experts are trying to figure out how deep the hacking system is.

Last Saturday, Kaz Hirai, executive director of Sony Computer Entertainment, announced that all services would be operational in about a week, and everything was moving towards a gradual restoration of these services. However, in this case, the wishes of the management of the corporation diverged from the real state of affairs. How long to wait is not yet clear, but there is a statement by the same Hirai, who promises to restore all services within a month. In general, how much this statement corresponds to reality is also unclear, but still we must assume that the corporation will make every effort to ensure that everything really works.

Three days ago, Saybold announced that internal testing of the updated system was currently underway, plus work was underway to check the security of the network service infrastructure. The system is checked both from the inside and “outside” to take into account all possible vulnerabilities and errors in the settings.

In general, statements are declarations, but the human factor remains. Despite previous claims about robust system protection, it turned out that Sony servers were running on an outdated version of Apache . Yes, Sony’s management has already apologized to customers more than once and twice, but this is exactly the case when no apologies will help to rectify the situation and regain the trust of customers.
