Fast and efficient Qimonda FB-DIMM DDR2 memory modules

Qimonda has announced the release of 8 GB FB-DIMM DDR2 quad-rank memory modules operating at 800 MHz for multi-core servers.

Completed by the standards of 75 nm and designed for use in the new generation of servers, 800 MHz FB-DIMM modules have a capacity of 4.8 Gbit / s, which is 50% more than the modules operating at 533 MHz and 20% more than the modules operating at 667 MHz.

But speed is not the only advantage of the new FB-DIMM. In addition to high bandwidth, Qimonda's memory advantage is reduced by 45% compared with conventional modules, power consumption. Such indicators were achieved through the use of components operating at a voltage of 1.5 V (standard 1.8 V port) of DDR2 components.

Creation of an 8-gigabyte module with such low power consumption has become possible due to the quad-rank technology, the logical organization of which is implemented using an AMB (advanced memory buffer) chip developed by Qimonda. Working as a peculiar switch, AMB is responsible for directing signal flows in FB-DIMM.

According to the company, Qimonda intends to release FB-DIMM DDR2 quad-rank modules of 2, 4 and 8GB.
