Today in London, Sony Ericsson has introduced a new generation of compact smartphones Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro to the world. It is expected that the model will be available in the third quarter of this year.

The last generation of mini has gained popularity due to the fact that they provided the functionality of full-fledged smartphones in a very compact package. New "minks" adhere to the same concept, only now at the modern level:
- 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor
- Android Gingerbread 2.3
- and other features, including multitouch, Mobile BRAVIA Engine’s best-in-class imaging technology, and HD 720p video recording.
Camera - 5 MP with autofocus, the function of "catching" the moment of a smile and a full gentlemanly set of options (8x digital zoom, autofocus, face detection, flash, geo-tags, image stabilization and red-eye removal).
')

A nice bonus: the screen diagonal increased from 2.6 "(which was still not enough) to 3", and the resolution increased to 320 x 480 against 240 x 320 pixels earlier. So now this is really a full-fledged, only compact, smartphone.
Dimensions at the same time increased insignificantly: 88x52x16 mm for mini and 92x53x18 mm for mini pro versus 83x50x16 mm and 90x52x17 mm for old mini and mini pro, respectively. Weight - 94 and 136 grams.
Externally, as you can see in the image, mini is designed in the style of the previous model, while maintaining the continuity of generations:

The photo shows that the “corners interface” has also changed, used in the previous generation (when icons of main applications were placed at the corners of the screen, allowing you to more effectively use its space and press them with the thumb of the same hand that the phone is in). On the new mini in the corner of the screen, you can already group several icons that, when pressed, open like a fan:

As always, the pro model will differ in a compact slide-out keyboard (from the keyboard of the current generation,
which I had on the test last year , there were very good impressions: separate convex keys exclude the possibility of accidentally pressing a few buttons and allow you to type text by touch). They aren't looking for good from good, so it hasn't changed much:

Whether it has become more convenient - will show the test, but for now Sony Ericsson has made it smarter to save the user from unnecessary actions in the main usage scenarios - when working in email, with contacts and in the browser. So, when the mail is open, the shortcut keys or go to the next letter will work, create a new letter, and pushing the keyboard with the contact list or browser open will automatically focus in the address search / input field.
Another difference mini pro is the presence of a front-facing camera that allows for video conferencing or performing a mirror function (a removable pink lid is no accident):

About the exact prices will be known closer to the start of sales. And of course, I will review the news as soon as the first samples come to Russia. So subscribe to our blog, and you will find out first ;-)
