Google and Facebook are negotiating the purchase of Skype

Today it became known that Facebook and Google corporations again began negotiations with Skype. The essence of the negotiations - the purchase of Skype, a company that is a tasty morsel for most large corporations. True, the information about the negotiations so far is semi-official, as always there are “sources” who have such information. Reuters found two such sources at once, each of which reported on ongoing negotiations. Companies are trying to negotiate with Skype after it became aware of the next IPO pass - and this time Skype will not go to the stock exchange, planning to do so in the second half of 2011.

It is clear that the ongoing negotiations are still at a very early stage, and nothing concrete can be said. But the fact that negotiations are underway, "sources" argue unequivocally. How could it be otherwise? After all, lately Skype has become quite an active company that is changing for the better. True, Apple and Google began to compete with Skype, so the value of the company is not particularly growing. Nevertheless, the cost of Skype has increased from 2009 to 3-4 billion (it is clear that the estimate is very approximate, however, there is growth). On the other hand, Skype was recently estimated at $ 5-6 billion, so everything is relative.

If Google and Facebook seriously take on Skype, and the management of the latter decides to sell the company, then the cost of Skype can increase to a record high when few people pay attention to the real market value of the company, because the only goal is to defeat a competitor by assigning a higher price. .

Buying Skype is beneficial for both Facebook and Google, which may well become a monopolist in the market for VoIP services.

So far, none of the participants in the transaction gave any comments, which is also not surprising, since there is nothing to comment on so far. But it may well be that in a week / month we will hear that Skype already belongs to one of the current applicants. Anything can happen.
