Tethering applications are blocked in the Android Market by the largest US carriers

I remember, there were previously many dissatisfied with the inaccessibility of tethering on iOS. The situation was further aggravated by the fact that some free apps that implement tethering for free on the iPhone were removed from the App Store. Well, when you turn on tethering by means of the iPhone itself, the user was charged (and charged) a fee of $ 20 per month. As the saying goes, “our song is good, start over,” and US carriers began blocking the same apps in the Android Market.

For example, such major telecom operators as AT & T, Verizon Wireless, and T-Mobile USA joined the “block tethering application” campaign. As for Sprint, customers of this company can still download the mentioned applications from Market.

So far this is preliminary information that was obtained by the DroidLife resource, but everything indicates that the information is quite reliable. The customers of the above operators in the US, using contract tubes with Google Android, really do not see tethering applications in the Android Market.

Representatives of telecom operators AT & T and Verizon declined to comment on the situation, but representatives of Google were still able to clarify the situation. The fact is that you do not need to block anything when contacting a carrier with Google, reporting that an application violating the terms of use of a contract package from this carrier is found, Google simply makes the application “invisible” to the end user who is connected to the contract complained carrier.

True, there is a solution, and quite simple - simply download the application from the site, and then install, and not work with the Android Market.

But the operators do not want to lose their money, and recently AT & T sent out an e-mail warning message to all customers who use the tethering function without paying for the additional service in the amount of $ 20 per month. For $ 20, the client gets the right to download 4 GB per month, if the limit is exceeded, each subsequent gigabyte is paid at the rate of $ 10 per GB.

T-Mobile USA charges a tethering fee of $ 15 per month, including 5 GB per package.

Verizon Wireless charges $ 20, providing 2 GB.

In general, not only domestic telecom operators are greedy, it seems that these companies are the same everywhere. True, they earn from us on hidden payments and connecting additional services without warning the subscriber, which was not once or twice spoken on Habré, and there they charge money “for the air”, but quite officially.
