New details on hacking Sony servers

According to Nikkei.com, new details have appeared in the hacking history of Sony's online services.

This time it turned out that the data of 12,700 credit cards were stolen, but from another online service of the corporation - Sony Online Entertainment.

Although the official confirmation from Sony’s representatives has not yet been received, the SOE website is disabled, and on its main page there’s an announcement that, say, yes, the data was stolen, but you don’t worry, there was only your last name, first name and patronymic , age, gender, address, telephone, account and password hash. And in general, we ourselves will contact all those who are affected.

The same announcement says that it was leaked from the “old database of 2007”, the attackers got access to 12,700 credit card numbers, non-US users, as well as approximately 10,700 bank account numbers of users from Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Spain.

Sony connects this leak with a PSN hack in mid-April, and believes that the data from the SOE were stolen at the same time, but it is unclear how this compares with their previous claims that the PSN and SOE services are on different networks and are not connected .

It is also interesting to add that at the end of March, Sony fired more than 200 employees, closing three gaming studios and reducing its online services division. In this regard, it is quite natural that speculation began to appear on a number of forums that hacking corporate servers was the work of an insider.
