Twitter is testing a new text ad

Twitter microblogging service developers are now testing a new kind of advertising, as before, textual. Under the “actual topics” (we already use the Russian translation of the service) a link to the NFL website was noted, with a proposal to join the discussion of a specific topic. Previously, the same place in the sidebar of the Twitter web-version was used to promote Twitter-related services of partner companies.

Another interesting fact is that the advertiser gets a link open to search engines - without the “nofollow” attribute. As you know, almost any links in the microblogging service are closed from search engines with this attribute. So advertisers kill two birds with one stone - get an indexed link + huge traffic.

A new “promo” class is introduced in css for sponsored links. Currently, Twitter developers are experimenting with different types of advertising, and these experiments have been going on since last year. So, in November last year, advertising trends were added to the “active topics”, after that advertising tweets and some other types of advertising were introduced.

In general, the service management has kept its promise not to overload Twitter with advertising, and does not curb the web version of the service with banners, as many other companies do. Now the company is trying to choose some of the most profitable ways of advertising, and will continue to work with them. But the experiments are still going on, so we will probably see something new.

By the way, the introduction of the Russian-language interface did not go unnoticed, but quite a lot of Russian-speaking users expected this, and there was not much noise about this. And how do you feel about the introduction of the Russian-language interface of this service? Satisfied, dissatisfied, or you do not care? Personally, I don't care :-)
