Hello habrazhiteli, I hasten to tell you about the news, which certainly will interest fans of netbooks and tablets. According to Intel, the next generation of Atom chips will hit the market in the 4th quarter of 2011. The code name of the platform is “Cedar Trail”, it will be based on a chip created using the 32-nm process technology.
The new Atom will have onboard both a CPU and a new GPU with support for DirectX 10 and high-definition video. Due to the transition to a new process technology, Intel engineers not only were able to increase the clock frequency while maintaining the same thermal packet (TDP) (as in earlier Atom), but even reduced the latter. In Cedar Trail, the same NM10 chipset will be used as in Oak Trail. The table shows the specifications of existing and expected Atoms in the near future.

Also, according to experts, Intel may update the Pine Trail series, perhaps this will happen in the 3rd quarter of 2011. Most likely, the updated processors will operate at frequencies close to the 2nd GHz and consist of single-core and dual-core Atom processors, but without updating the GPU. ')
Cedar-Trail will be able to demonstrate full support for DirectX 10.1 and HD decoding (MPEG2, VC1, AVC and H.264) with Blu-Ray 2.0. In addition, support for video interfaces will be significantly improved, including HDMI 1.3a, DisplayPort 1.1, EDP (integrated DisplayPort), LVDS and VGA. Also, the integrated graphics can support up to two monitors. Unfortunately, the characteristics, clock speeds and supported resolutions of the integrated GPU are not reported yet. Presumably, it will use a trimmed version of HD Graphics from Arrandale. Despite this, the GPU will be significantly faster compared to the GMA 3150.
One of the main questions remains: “how much can Cedar Trail be able to compete with Brazos (a new, promising, mobile platform from AMD)”. After all, according to tests , the AMD E-350 easily outperforms the D510. D2700 at a clock speed of 500 MHz faster than the D510, respectively, in terms of performance, the CPU should be equal to the E-350. On the other hand, the graphics integrated into AMD's chips demonstrate very good results, but in the case of the Intel platform, in terms of graphics performance, nothing will become clear until the first tests. Regarding the “heat pack”, Cedar-Trail is superior to Brazos, 10W versus 18W - this fact can play a crucial role for manufacturers of ultra-mobile devices.
Ultimately, Cedar-Trail is in fact the logical continuation of Pine Trail and will be focused on netbooks of the $ 300 price category, although it is possible that we will see the D2700 in more expensive versions. Like previous generations, new atoms are designed for basic office tasks, such as web browsing, email, and instant messaging. Well, we will wait for interesting solutions based on new energy efficient platform from Intel. Thank you for attention.
