Skype today released a new version of the
Qik Video Connect app
for the Android platform and updated the Qik apps for the iPhone. Perhaps the most interesting opportunity that Qik users now have is the ability to make video calls between androids and iPhones.
New applications running on a variety of Android phones (2.1-2.3.3), as well as iPhone, iPad 2 and iPod touch with cameras.
In addition to live video chat, Qik Video Connect allows you to send video mail. If you are unable to contact someone "live" - you can send him a video message.

Also, Qik Video Connect allows you to share videos with friends on Facebook, Twitter readers, YouTube viewers, etc.

Qik provides a more careful battery consumption, smoother video and a clearer picture thanks to deep integration with the hardware, achieved through cooperation with phone manufacturers (Samsung, HTC, LG, Motorola, Dell) and chipset suppliers for them (Qualcomm, TI, Samsung , Nvidia). Some devices even support VGA quality when connected via Wi-Fi.

And another thing: if you have an Android 2.2 phone with two cameras, but Qik "sees" only the main one - contact Qik at
http://support.qik.com as soon as possible and the developers will try to add support for the front camera for your phone.
Video mail works in a free trial mode until June 1, 2011. After this, a monthly or annual subscription will be required to send a video message (the receipt will remain free)
VGA quality support for video chat over WiFi is possible on the following devices: Samsung Galaxy Tab, Samsung Galaxy Player, Samsung Galaxy S, and Telus Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate 4G.
