OpenStreetMap is used in the UN and note the crucial role of this card.

The United Nations Foundation , the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, OCHA) and others recognized the crucial role that OpenStreetMap plays in relief efforts in Haiti and elsewhere.

Quote from UN Foundation Disaster Relief 2.0 Fast Facts :

OpenStreetMap (OSM) is a community of approximately 150,000 cartographers aimed at creating a free and open map of the world. OSM mobilized more than 640 volunteers from all over the world who scanned and corrected old atlases and maps and painted Haitian roads, bridges and buildings into the geospatial OpenStreetMap wiki using tools that only require a simple web browser and time. As a result of this process, this community has turned the white spot on the map into one of the most accurately mapped countries in the world, creating a map that is much better than any existing in the UN . By mid-March, the OpenStreetMap became the de facto source of cartographic data for Haiti in most UN agencies and the EC Humanitarian Unit.
