Google lost a patent infringement case

Typically, small companies that are suing at once with a large number of different corporations, accusing everyone and everything of violating copyrights, patents, and others, are called patent trolls. In most cases, these companies also lose the lawsuits. But sometimes there are exceptions to the rule, when the company seems not to be a “troll”, and patent infringement does take place. In any case, it was judged by an American judge who ruled in favor of the small American software company Bedrock, which, in turn, accused Google of violating one of the company's patents.

Experts say that this lawsuit can affect many areas of Google and not only Google, because the same company is suing such giants as MySpace, Yahoo !, PayPal and others. The lawsuit was filed by Bedrock lawyers in 2009, and only now some of the results of consideration of this lawsuit have appeared. As mentioned above, the judge still found Google guilty, obliging it to pay the claimant $ 5 million.

In general, the problem is not 5 million dollars, but the consequences that this trial may have in the future. Perhaps all participants in the trial will now have to pay Bedrock Computer Technologies money. Guide Bedrock Computer Technologies has accused Google of using a certain patent related to the Linux kernel - allegedly some technologies developed by Bedrock Computer Technologies were used by Google employees, particularly in the Android OS and in software for their own servers.

True, Google still has a chance to defeat Bedrock - the corporation filed an appeal, and Red Hat took the side of Google, claiming that there really is no violation can be. In addition, Red Hat itself began a lawsuit against Bedrock Computer Technologies a couple of years ago, claiming that the patent obtained by this company is invalid.

In general, the conflict promises to drag on for another couple of years, and maybe more, considering how many participants are involved in this process.
