Examination of the FGU FIPS website

A week ago, a topic was published inviting people to examine the site of the Federal Institute of Industrial Property (FGU FIPS).

Perhaps Friday is not the best day to start working together, perhaps then it was just the first warm day, but the topic did not appear on the main one and none of the users took an active part in the examination. Please offer another day and / or time in the week when it is better to begin the examination of the next site (if there is still powder in the factory). While I offer the following examination to begin on Monday.

I, as the initiator, should set an example, so I carried out the examination myself, as I could. As a result, in about 3-4 hours of work I managed to find 11 advantages, 19 shortcomings, to express 11 wishes and note 7 interesting facts about the site under study.

Site advantages

• A large amount of information is structured so that you can quickly find the right.
• Very, very much information. Visible large, carefully executed work.
• For each page shows the date of the update information.
• Convenient contrast lighting highlighted menu item.
• The texts of the pages themselves are pretty clean from the HTML / CSS point of view: no Word frills, unnecessary tags and attributes are noticed.
• In the Inventions and utility models section, both application and application templates and examples of their completion for various cases are well cited. The same applies to the section Samples of applications, applications and petitions and examples of their filling .
• Everywhere in all texts there are many references to other relevant documents, where you can find out the details. Email addresses are also valid links. Phone numbers are listed with the area code.
• On all pages at the top of an adequate navigation chain.
• A good search on the site, taking into account the morphology (such as).
• Excellent detailed search with the ability to set a variety of criteria - did not see analogues on other similar sites.
• Organized access to specialized databases (registries) at www1.fips.ru/wps/portal/Registers (sorry, there is no full-text search for them).

Interesting Facts

• According to the information of the Electronic Interaction section with applicants: “From January 2011, FGU FIPS starts trial operation of the first stage of the automated paperless office system for examination of inventions - electronic filing applications for inventions and plans to conduct trial operation in cooperation with three patent attorney organizations moments requiring the intervention of technical and legal services, so the number of participants is limited). Three participating organizations will be determined by lot in the presence of representatives of all interested organizations that have submitted applications. ”
  Apparently, we are working on the development of the EDS system. Perhaps a company that implements “paperless paperwork” unjustifiably and illegally forces citizens to use the services of only their CA.
• With such close integration with the site of Rospatent, it is completely incomprehensible how the site managers themselves are not confused, where exactly they need to put this or that document, where to look for it then and where to put the link.
• From the browser Opera Mini 6, which I use on my smartphone, the site is viewed correctly.
• Designers may be curious to look at the registered trademarks in the Register of trademarks and service marks of the Russian Federation .
• It is also sometimes curious to take a look at the patents themselves, for example, the useful model of the POSITION OF THE DRIVER POSITION OF THE NUCLEAR REACTOR ORGAN .
• The Register of well-known trademarks in the Russian Federation is curious - there are only 102 positions in it, which are really well-known :-)
• In the Register of Industrial Designs of the Russian Federation section, I came across a charming GAME SET "MATRYOSHKA-VERTUSHKA" .
