Samsung 900X3A review, MacBook Air's only competitor

The Samsung 900X3A, also known as the Samsung 9 series, is the first real competitor to the new MacBook Air. Interesting chips from the "Korean" is much more than the laptop Apple.

No matter how much Apple and Samsung called their laptops “the thinnest,” this title is still assigned to the 13.3-inch Dell Adamo XPS - the thickness of its case is 9.99 mm. But due to its complex and impractical constructive, this competitor is usually not taken into account in comparisons.

Nevertheless, the Samsung 900X3A's weight-thickness indicators are quite good: 1.35 kg and 16.3 mm. Just 0.7 mm thinner than the MacBook Air, but the Koreans reassured. Until.

In work

The 9 series has a luxurious keyboard. The keys are soft, but moderately elastic - the balance is perfectly observed, no false clicks. Plus, they are island-type, and even illuminated. True, a decent file came out here: in the Russian version of the laptop, only Latin letters are lit.



Now the display. Samsung is not cunning, calling it "the brightest." It is made by technology SuperBright Plus, produces 16 million colors and 400 nit brightness. Frankly: I did not see anything like this on laptops.

Minuses

Alas, it was not without them. In addition to the already mentioned sharp edging, which in certain positions can unpleasantly rest against the hands, as well as the keyboard, in which only Latin characters are lit, I will say about the touchpad.

The touchpad is generally cool: big, soft and rough, but the left key zone is available for navigation. If you’re accustomed to move your index finger along the touchpad and hold the big key on the left key, you’ll have a hard time: since the touchpad supports multi-touch detection, any careless movement with your thumb lets the cursor float freely.

Filling

When turned on, the 900X3A resembles a hybrid car: the laptop turns on completely silently. That's because instead of a hard disk there is a 128-gigabyte SSD-drive inside (which partly explains the high price of a laptop). There is also a second-generation Core i5 processor and 4 GB RAM. The 900X3A works very fast: for example, it takes only three seconds to get out of sleep mode - Samsung is especially proud of it.



Thickness for the sake of all the connectors had to hide in the case - they are available on request. A set of non-standard ports: USB 2.0 and 3.0, one for microHDMI, a headphone jack, a reader for microSD cards. By the way, with a big jack inserted into the audio jack, you need to handle gently: if you accidentally knock it on top, you can break the entire panel

Another pleased battery. With such a thickness of the laptop it seems that it is not there at all. But the battery is non-removable - hidden in the case. And it works as much as five hours offline. Although the manufacturer claims all seven.

Summary

Despite some drawbacks and the most important - the price, Samsung turned out to be a cool and truly breakthrough laptop. I'd like to see such thickness and weight become a standard for all notebooks in a year or two.
