Yahoo closes another service - Yahoo Buzz

Yahoo, striving to “optimize costs,” closes some of its very famous services. Probably the most noise was caused by the news about the closing of Delicious, which Yahoo declared unprofitable and was going to either close the resource altogether or sell it at least for a reasonable price. Such services as MyBlogLog and AllTheWeb were also closed. Now it's Yahoo Buzz's turn - Yahoo has announced a little news on its website about the closure of the project. In the same message, management argued that the closure of the service "will help focus on new developments and major projects."

It is worth noting that since its opening in 2008, this service has become quite popular, but, of course, not as popular as the same Digg (which also has significant problems with payback, and which is gradually losing people from its team). True, for a short time, Yahoo Buzz had even more visitors in the USA than Digg. But such services and social networks as Twitter, Facebook led to a decline in the popularity of social bookmarking services and news aggregators.

Some experts believe that the decline in the popularity of Yahoo Buzz is due to some "entanglement" of the structure of this aggregator. There is also an opinion that the service did not develop actively enough, remaining in place while other services and companies were constantly improving. Whatever it was, and Yahoo has already announced the closure of the service, and guessing the reasons that led to this may be useful for analyzing the situation, but Yahoo Buzz will not return.

By the way, Yahoo does not represent much innovation in the past few years. Yes, the company has significant problems, but the current head of Yahoo, Carol Bartz, tries to solve most of the problems by “cost optimization”, which means closing offices, reducing staff, closing or selling some services. It remains to hope that the Yahoo team is still preparing something interesting, since such a “focus on current projects of Yahoo” is underway.
