Brazilian police will use hi-tech glasses to detect criminals in 2014

Generally speaking, a bit of an unusual news - but April 1 seemed to be long gone, and this news was published on the rather authoritative site of The Telegraph, which doesn’t often let ducks, if at all. So, by the beginning of the World Cup 2014, the Brazilian police will be equipped with high-tech glasses with a built-in face scanning system. The system works as follows: a small camera built into the glasses, which is capable of receiving up to 400 shots of people per second, transmits the data to the central server. The server compares each person with the base, which contains photos of criminals, both local and international, in the amount of 13 million.

The server is capable of comparing individuals using biometric data, over 46 thousand points of "difference" per person. If the photo taken by the camera coincides with the photo stored in the police base, the policeman receives a signal and it is possible to detain. A singal will not be noticeable for a criminal - it appears as a small red dot on a small screen connected to the glasses.

Points are no longer a simple concept - soon they are going to be tested at various events, including football matches and concerts. The camera is able to recognize faces at a distance of 50 meters. It is also reported that if the glasses are set to search for a specific person, they will be able to recognize faces from a distance of up to 20 kilometers (12 miles). And this is not a typo, it really is about kilometers, not meters.

So far, the details of the operation of such a system are not communicated, the configuration of the glasses is also unknown - besides the camera, a fairly small and capacious data storage device is also needed, plus a wireless data interface, plus a very high-speed transmission channel for such data.

In general, the ideas presented in fairly old SF films, including Robocop, are beginning to be realized in real life. I remember that not so long ago there was also a sign control system for computer systems and individual browsers , a laser gun and other futuristic devices. Perhaps police robots will soon appear on the streets, and then ... "may the Savior come"?

Anyway, the Brazilian police will have a really interesting development at their disposal. Such points and every law enforcement officer would benefit not only during football matches.
