Philips has released a network hard drive to 500 GB

Philips has announced its first 500 GB network hard drive. The main difference between the Philips SPD8020 and ordinary external drives is the ability to connect the device not to a PC, but to the router, which allows access to it from any computer on the network.

The volume of the SPD8020 is 500 GB, which allows you to store up to 500,000 photos, three weeks of uncompressed video or 125,000 music tracks. The device works almost silently and boasts low power consumption (due to the presence of the standby mode). The hard drive is equipped with a gigabit Ethernet adapter, but besides it supports the ability to connect to it via the Internet and work with files via the built-in FTP server.

Included with the Philips SPD8020 comes the One-Click program, with which the drive can be connected to the network in just a few minutes. When using a hard drive in conjunction with a digital media adapter connected to a TV, the SPD8020 can act as a full-featured media server.

Philips SPD8020 is expected to be available this summer. The price of the device will be? 229 or $ 259.
