Internet accused of killing Russian cinema

During the round table “Protecting intellectual property on the Web. The position of the television and film industry, "yesterday, the co-chairman of the Association of TV and film producers of Russia, Alexei Pimanov, said that the Internet" is killing the film industry. This is mainly about the Russian cinema, which is very suffering from the fact that a huge number of network users simply download new movies from the Internet.

Pimanov argues that the filmmakers do not even manage to get back the money spent on its production, let alone make money. Newly released films download an average of 750,000 pirated copies per month. According to statistics, about 69% of Russians download music and video for free on the Internet, and only 9% agree that it is a crime. Owners of torrent trackers with attendance of more than 100 thousand people a day receive income in the amount of more than 8 million rubles a year, the Association of TV and Film Producers of Russia believes.
