Four birthday Linux

To clarify the situation, the ZDNet edition turned directly to the project’s father Linus Torvalds. In the end, who else but he should know the date better than anyone?

Linus answer can please all of us. Holidays this year will be many.

Linus considers the main birthdays two dates:

August 25th On this day, a letter was published in the Minix news group with the official announcement of the project. This is the most appropriate date, because there is an official document with a date, time, etc., Linus believes.

September 17th On this day, Linus released release 0.01. However, he does not consider this event a genuine public exit, because he sent the code only to a few friends.

In addition to these, Linus mentions two more dates as additional birthdays.

July 3 On this day, Linus first mentioned the development of a new OS and asked for the necessary POSIX specifications in the Minix news group.

October 5th . Day of the first true public release when version 0.02 (+1 patch) was released.
