Pong Screensaver in Ubuntu Clock Mode

Previously, it was possible to configure a screensaver in Gnome, but this feature was removed from the interface to simplify it, depriving us of the ability to quickly and easily configure screensavers. In this topic, I will tell you how to get an old-school, beautiful and useful screensaver in five minutes.

Installing the Pong screensaver in clock mode


We perform installation of additional screensavers in the terminal
sudo apt-get install xscreensaver-data-extra 

Open the text editor, paste the following text:
 [Desktop Entry] Name=Pong Clock Exec=/usr/lib/xscreensaver/pong -root -clock TryExec=/usr/lib/xscreensaver/pong Comment=This simulates the 1971 Pong home video game, as well as various artifacts from displaying it on a color TV set. We save the text in a file with the name Pong clock.desktop , open the file properties, allow the execution of the file as a program.

We launch the screen saver settings (System → Options → Screen saver), drag the resulting file to the list of screensavers, close the screen saver settings.

Run the screensaver settings again, select Pong clock in the list, enjoy!
