Problem of adding an arrow "<-" in comments

In the comments I tried to visually present a coherent list: (0) -> (1) -> (2) -> (3) -> (4) -> (5)

so, if you expand the arrow, that is, you first put a smaller sign, and then two minuses in a row, then for some reason the written part disappears. The same thing happens in this post, and therefore did not give an example of an expanded arrow. In the title, oddly enough, everything works.
