Now the words Linux and OpenSource already surprise no one. People do not faint and do not freeze in thought when they hear about OpenOffice. But with the words "accounting system with open source" or "free ERP SAP level" fall into a stupor and misunderstanding or smile mysteriously.
The story is cyclical. If earlier, the use of OpenSource as such in principle was a pain, then now many solutions can already be considered a de facto standard in the workplace, the use of these solutions does not cause problems and ambiguity. That is, in general, what is called the “user environment” has completely stabilized and is suitable for users to work in the broadest sense of the word.
However, since the open source gave such a revolution in the market of user software, it was worth expecting the entry of business applications into the market. And the exit took place. As always, everything started from the West, and now we are seeing about the same picture as it was 5 years ago with the introduction of Linux: Western companies are actively and successfully introducing open-source business applications. And in Russia, everything is kept on a couple of private companies and on individual enthusiasts. But Russia somehow or other, as usual, will copy the experience of the West: this is already in our blood, right from the time of Peter the Great. This process will take not a year or two - the business area is much more sluggish in changing its combat tools than the same home / office users. Business management solutions must be sustainable and have a sufficiently low cost of ownership (the notorious TCO). And until that happens, and players on the Canonical level will appear on the market - at least another 3 years must pass.

Speaking of Russia, it is sad to say that the phrase “until the thunder breaks out” is still relevant. Suffice it to recall what blood the popularization of Open Source was worth in our country (this, of course, is about the Ponosov case). Well, we will sit more comfortably around the TV and we will wait for high-profile cases with the delivery of, say, a pirate 1C as part of the implementation of the accounting system in government agencies. Maybe then people will pay attention to the existence of alternatives available, free and at least functional:
OpenERP ,
OpenBravo ,
ADempiere ,
webERP . This list goes on and on.
Will wait?
