Not so long ago, Google introduced “Live Search”, which, when the user enters information into the search box “on the fly”, shows available search results, relevant, of course, entered keywords. Many people like this development, although there were also users who didn’t like this feature. Apparently, the idea is really worth it, since Yahoo! now developed something similar, however, with significant differences.
The main difference is in the number of live results (for Yahoo, this is called Search Direct) results. Google has a whole “footer” of results, which gradually changes in the process of entering a full phrase or word (well, or who types quickly, nothing is shown until the end of input). And Yahoo! decided to reduce the number of results issued, leaving only the most relevant. In addition, the “live results” will not be displayed on the whole page of the general search results, an additional “quick” window will be displayed under the search bar. In this case, such issuance is divided into prompts for input and results of issuance.

In addition, developers are also proud that when working with Yahoo’s “live search”, it’s not just links to sites that may contain information relevant to a search query are displayed in the window. The development team made sure that, for example, when entering the query “weather”, the user saw a window with the weather forecast for the current region user. In addition, when entering requests like “buy a toyota,” a list of stores, or rather, car dealerships, where you can buy this car, is displayed.
Now Search Direct from Yahoo works in fifteen categories, which include the weather, all sorts of celebrities (well, yes, as without them), shops, news and so on. What else is interesting, in Search Direct, requests like the "movie" y "torrent" are not filtered yet. That is, torrents can carry out a full search. Rights holders have already forced Google to filter out this type of requests in the "live search". As far as I know, in the usual search so far nothing is filtered.
By the way, since Carol Bartz took the post of CEO of Yahoo! it seems like one of the first serious developments from Yahoo! .. In principle, I would like to hope that Yahoo! Soon there will be more good developments.
