Google is not ready to show Honeycomb sorts.

Despite the status of Android as an “open operating system,” Google will strictly restrict access to the source codes of the tablet version of the OS. Ordinary developers will not be able to see them in the near future, said Andy Rubin, head of Android at Google, in an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek. He called this decision temporary.

The basic license for the Android Open Source Project is Apache 2.0, which does not require opening source codes of derivative works.

So what now is the definition of an “open system” that Andy Rubin himself gave in his controversy with Steve Jobs?

At least for the next few months, access to the ads was provided only to hardware partners, including Motorola (it has already released the Xoom tablet for Android), Samsung, Dell, HTC and Acer.

Andy Rubin also said at CES that he is very happy to see so many tablets on Android, but although this is an open operating system, Google will “watch out for it” ( video ). From these his words, many even then concluded that Google is unlikely to open source codes in the near future.

Thus, Google is trying to more tightly control the hardware manufacturers who want to use Android. At least, now the company is not ready to let this OS into free floating.

Probably, there is nothing terrible in this: they will “finish” the code a little bit and then release it. Although Honeycomb is already installed on devices that go on sale, reviews Xoom still show: there is something to "finish."
