Environmentalists have long been concerned about the problem of the proliferation of e-waste dumps: unnecessary computers, monitors, printers, telephones, televisions, MP3 players and other equipment. According to the StEP organization, 40 million tons of electronic garbage is generated annually in the world. In order to estimate this volume, imagine a string of 20 thousand km long dump trucks standing next to each other, encircling half of the globe. That is how many dump trucks you need to load all this garbage. And with the inaction with each year, the string will become longer and longer, starting to gird the Earth in the second, third circle, etc.

The accumulation of electronic debris has a catastrophic effect on the ecology of our only home, the Earth, because it contains harmful substances that disrupt natural processes. For example, the case of an ordinary laptop is made of plastic, the decomposition of which in the natural environment takes decades. As a result, we leave such a “gift” to our children and grandchildren.

In the end, if you do not take sufficient measures, our planet will look like in the animated film "Wall-E". It shows the Earth, on which there is no room left for anything other than garbage. Due to the large amount of waste, the planet became so dirty that it was impossible to stay on it - and people went to live on the spacecraft for generations.
Earth is our homeAccording to a Harris Interactive study, if all employees of one average American company turned off computers when they left work in the evening, the amount of carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere during power generation would be reduced by 1,380 tons (or 15 million tons across the country, if all firms would do that). Reducing greenhouse gas emissions means a healthier planet, more healthy we and our descendants.

Given the tendency to deterioration of the environmental situation, governments of different countries are trying to push citizens to consciously use natural resources and, above all, electricity. In foreign countries, at first it became fashionable to lay out garbage in multi-colored tanks, and then - familiar. The same goes for energy.
At the same time, all members of society should strive to save natural resources, including enterprises that create the image of our daily life. That is why corporate environmental strategies have become so important. Companies are able to significantly reduce environmental damage - both by reducing the amount of harmful substances and energy consumption of products, and by introducing "green" technologies in production. But more importantly, they set an example, an example like you and me.
Next time we will tell you about the contribution that Toshiba makes to the problem of global warming and other problems of modern civilization in the purification of the Earth from e-waste.
