DEX is a project to increase the intensity of cooperation between Debian and its derivative distributions.

Matt Zimmerman, technical director of Ubuntu, and Stefano Zacchiroli (Stefano Zacchiroli), the leader of Debian, worked together to create a new project - DEX. This is a new initiative to improve collaboration between Debian and its derivatives, including Ubuntu.
Matt presented DEX in his blog . He explains that he is looking for ways to improve cooperation between Debian and its derivatives.

His interest in this topic is not new, at present the leader of Debian actively supports any such efforts (I remember that he already created Derivatives Frontdesk ).

Together they went even further and tried to do something with the motto:
')

DEX is a process: patch mergers, bug fixes, data processing, [...]

Although the project is neutral and welcomes all derivative distros, Matt organized the Ubuntu DEX team , which aims to “promote cooperation between Debian and Ubuntu through a direct process: patch merging, adding code sponsorship, and so on.”

The fact that DEX is a project with its roots in Debian is a positive factor for accepting it and will make joining it easier when it encounters some less responsive members who could join Debian. This is especially important given the fact that DEX seeks to fill this gap, in which cooperation is not yet working. Fortunately, for most teams / projects / other participants, participation in it will not be necessary.

The scope of possible work is huge, but the project seems to take a healthy approach to the selection of specific tasks and seeks to complete them. Achievable goals are important for maintaining momentum and demonstrating to DEX participants that they have progress and are doing something useful.

The Ubuntu DEX team has reached its first goal - to check out a lot of old patches, the status of which was not clear, because they were not preceded by any tracking.

We invite everyone to help or join the team. You can find out more on # Debian-Ubuntu on irc.debian.org (OFTC) and on the debian-derivatives mailing list. You will find more information on the DEX home page .
