Blaze.io, a website optimization company, has conducted
comparative testing of the latest versions of the iPhone and Android on thousands of websites. The results were mixed: 84% of sites turned out to be faster than the built-in Android browser, and 16% of the sites - the built-in iPhone browser. At the same time, the average median page load time over WiFi on Android was 2.144 seconds, and on the iPhone - 3.254 seconds.
A total of 46,000 tests were conducted on the websites of Fortune 1000 companies at different times of the day, discarding too fast and too slow results (network errors). The devices used were iPhone 4.2, iPhone 4.3, Galaxy S (Android 2.2) and Nexus S (Android 2.3), a WiFi router connected to a fast DSL connection.
The median average is more objective in this case than the arithmetic average because here the extreme values do not affect the result so much - network errors that were not filtered out.
Interestingly, the advantage of Android in speed is almost completely leveled on mobile sites, that is, optimized for mobile devices. There, Android overtook a competitor by only 3%: it showed a median time of 2.085 seconds versus 2.024 seconds for a competitor.

On regular sites, the advantage of Android in speed was 59%: 2.180 s vs. 3.463 s.
According to experts, the advantage of Android in the speed of rendering pages is especially important for tablet devices, because they will be much more likely to download the regular version rather than the mobile version of the sites.
Another unexpected result of the study was that doubled in the latest versions of iOS and Android, the execution speed of JavaScript (according to SunSpider tests) practically did not affect the speed of downloading sites. The iPhone 4.3 and iPhone 4.2 make almost no difference (+ 2%), and Android 2.3 is only 10% faster than Android 2.2.
Here are the results of running the SunSpider tests on four devices.
iPhone 4.3: 3978.9
iPhone 4.2: 10303.9
Galaxy S (Android 2.2): 5840.7
Nexus S (Android 2.3): 4257.2
Finally, when comparing download speeds on iPhone 4.2 over WiFi and 3G, the result was obtained: an average of 3.182 seconds over WiFi and 3.607 over 3G, that is, the difference is only half a second. However, I must say that tests for 3G were carried out at night at a point with very good signal reception (5.95 Mbit / s by speedtest.net).
