Microsoft has released a new test build Windows Server 2008

On the evening of June 26, Microsoft introduced a new CTP build of Windows Server 2008 - its new server OS.

According to the publication on the Windows Server group blog, this build is not addressed to any beta tester, but to a small group of technical beta testers. This build is the first after Windows Server 2008 Beta 3 was introduced two months ago, which, according to information from Microsoft, was downloaded by more than 200,000 testers.

What's new in the new CTP? A publication on the developer group blog says: “So what's new in the June CTP? From a technical point of view, Beta 3 was complete in terms of implemented functions, so from the moment of its release one should not expect any cardinal changes and innovations. However, in this assembly there is one significant innovation - the ability to use the role of the web server (aka IIS 7.0) in Server Core. This kind of addition was made exclusively at the request of our beta testers and partners. But the main purpose of this release, of course, is to correct the errors found, increase the overall quality of the OS and increase productivity. You will also find minor changes in the UI. ”

By the way, note that since Windows Server 2008 Core does not support managed code, respectively, IIS does not support ASP.NET when running in Server Core mode.

Microsoft, apparently, still does not lose hope of releasing the Windows Server 2008 RTM build later this year, although the official release is scheduled for early next year.
