Replacing images on Times Square monitors using the iPhone

Today I came across this video - it looks quite impressive, although to be honest, I really want to say that it’s fake. If the fact that the magic transmitter is inserted into the headphone jack can still close your eyes (after all, there is square ), then the appearance of this guy on the back-stop monitor at 0:35 is already difficult to explain ...

The principle of operation of the device is also explained rather vaguely (translation of the author’s comment to the YouTube video):

The device works quite simply: insert my transmitter into the iPhone 4 and start playing any video (you can play your videos recorded via the camera or select the video downloaded through iTunes beforehand). The transmitter sends the playing video to the repeater (repeater) and the repeater in turn changes the picture on any screen that is nearby. The size and shape of the screen do not matter - the picture coming from the repeater will retain its original proportions, the remaining space on the screen will be filled with black.
')
I chose Times Square to demonstrate the device because of the huge number of monitors in this place. It is also one of the most protected places in New York, which adds special interest to the whole process :). As you can see from my video, the repeater is powerful enough, but the signal coming from it is not very stable yet. I'm working on it. Soon I will post a new video where I will explain in more detail how I made this prototype.

UPDATE: As correctly noted in the comments - the video was just running on the screen simultaneously with the picture on the iPhone. Thus, the creators tried to draw attention to the new film of their studio Limitless (Fields of Darkness).
