Torrent client "for housewives"

Company BitTorrent Inc. he is friends with copyright holders, Hollywood studios and wants to turn torrents into popular folk technology (to make a lot of money out of it).

According to them, the usual housewife is not able to master uTorrent, statistics show this: in 2010 less than a third of users who downloaded uTorrent and Mainline clients (two clients from BitTorrent) replenished their regular monthly audience, which now amounts to 100 million people. That is, most ordinary users are simply not able to master this program, which each of us must have repeatedly observed using the example of our relatives and friends.

How to make torrents really go to the people? The company believes that this requires a colorful, simple client with a catalog of content. On March 3, the first alpha version of a completely new client codenamed Chrysalis (BitTorrent 8.0, only under Windows) was released, which will be replaced in the future by the official client with the current version 7.2. The new project is based on the code uTorrent 3.0, but it has a completely different interface.

By the way, a curious detail: with the maximum simplicity of the interface, the settings window there is also simplified to an idiotic minimum (both General and Advanced).

But if you click on the “Expert” button, then the standard settings menu uTorrent 3.0 appears.

The developers have tried to make a program that would be as easy to use and understandable from the first launch. Immediately, it is striking that a mini-catalog of free content is delivered with the client: presentations from TED conferences, educational lectures by the Khan Academy, various podcasts and videos. The description of each “channel” is in the tooltip.

You can add and delete files for download with one click on the plus sign (see screenshot). There is also a built-in player, so video viewing is available directly from the client.

If the directory does not satisfy the user (and whom is he able to satisfy?), Then the client has a search line that redirects the request to Google with the addition of the filetype: torrent parameter. By the way, just recently, Google began to formally deal with torrents, removing the words uTorrent and BitTorrent from the hints for search queries, but in fact it doesn’t interfere with searching for content.
