Do not be embarrassed, the article is designed for users below average advancement. This will not prevent technically literate users from using it, but it will help the less advanced to cope on their own (and, moreover, reduce the headache of the sysadmins).
Many are faced with the problem of updating Service Pack 1 for Windows 7. Endless system attempts to upgrade end with a blue screen of death, an endless reboot - thereby making it impossible to use the system.
The problem is not all. If you have already upgraded to the first service pack, and you are fine, then you can stop reading. If you have not yet installed the first service pack - better not yet do it. Exclude it from the list of updates or ask knowledgeable friends about it. ')
Experienced, with the help of colleagues and discussions on specialized sites, a comprehensive solution was found to this problem. This method was successfully applied on several computers affected by the service pack. However, no one is responsible for possible negative consequences.
Be careful. If it is recommended to rename the xxx folder in xxx.old - rename, not delete. If then something goes wrong, it will be easier to roll it all back.
Reboot the computer.
Before the appearance of the Windows 7 logo on the black screen, press F8, a list of boot options will appear. If the Windows 7 logo managed to appear, then F8 had to be pressed a little earlier. Restart the computer and try again.
In the list of boot options, select Computer Troubleshooter and press Enter.
If the system prompts you to select a layout, select US.
If the system prompts for a username and password, enter the username and password for an account with administrator rights. If you do not know this, ask the person who installed Windows 7 for you.
In the window that appears, select the last item "Command line".
The console opens. Carefully type the following lines one after the other, pressing Enter after each. Note - C: this is the letter of your system disk. If the system is on another disk, use the appropriate letter.
C: cd windows ren SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old cd winsxs ren pending.xml pending.xml.old ren reboot.xml reboot.xml.old cd ..\system32 ren catroot2 catroot2.old cd config dir Regback
The last command will bring you the contents of the Regback folder. Make sure that the list contains the files "system" and "software".
Type the following lines, pressing Enter after each.
ren system system.old ren software software.old copy Regback\system system copy Regback\software software exit
Click the "Restart" button.
When the system boots, go to Start - Control Panel - Windows Update.
If the system prompts you to check for updates, do it.
When the list of available updates and the "Install Updates" button appear, do not rush to click it. To the left of the button there will be two links to a list of important and optional updates. Click any of the links.
A window will open with two tabs on the left. Go to each of the tabs in turn to see the list of suggested updates.
If in these lists you will find updates on which there are no ticks - click on each of these updates with the right button and select the item “Hide updates”.
Click OK. Click the "Install Updates" button.
When the update is complete, restart the computer, even if the system does not ask for it.
Make sure the computer starts up normally.
PS If you have any difficulties, please contact us. If it is not possible, ask for help from any familiar computer programmer / system administrator / programmer.
