Scientists from the University of California have developed a robot for packaging drugs in hospitals

Accidental mistakes of pharmacists can cause the death of a person or cause deterioration of his condition. Such errors occur more often than we would like (of course, ideally, the complete absence of such errors), and scientists from the University of California, San Francisco decided to remove the human factor from the “patient-prescription-drug” chain altogether. Of course, the doctor who prescribes these medications may be mistaken, but there's nothing you can do. But the robot can do the job of a pharmacist for selecting prescription drugs.

Created by Americans, the robot performs work on the selection and mixing of various drugs. The machine selects the exact amount of medication needed by the patient, packs it and supplies each drug with instructions and information about the patient. Each medicine package is supplied with a barcode, which allows you to ensure the correctness of the selected drug.

According to the developers, such a system allows pharmacists to work more efficiently, and the selection of drugs is carried out in a matter of seconds, which significantly reduces the amount of time required to sample the right drugs. The reliability of the robot is much higher than the reliability of a human pharmacist. So, the robot has not yet made a single mistake, although it has already prepared 350 thousand different sets of drugs.

By the way, such a system is unlikely to be recognized in the CIS countries, since its cost is $ 15 million. According to the developers, the system pays off by saving time, which is usually spent on the preparation of drugs to patients, and by reducing the cost of eliminating the problems caused by pharmacists' mistakes.
