WordPress.com has undergone a powerful DDoS attack

Last week, WordPress.com was subjected to a powerful DDoS attack, suspected of being carried out by the Chinese. Strictly speaking, this is no longer a suspicion, but a fact proved by experts. The attack was so powerful that as many as three data centers providing WordPress.com work could not cope with such a load. Job WordPress.com was resumed only today.

Last week, the management of the service stated that the attacks could be “politically motivated”, and are intended not for WordPress.com, but only for one of the blogs on this bloghosting, the author of which is a Chinese writing in Chinese. However, after some time, the leadership made a second statement, which stated that the suspicions of a political tint of this whole event were not justified. However, DDoS was carried out from China.

The power of the attack can be obtained from the appeal of WordPress.com management, who stated that DDoS "was carried out by several parallel streams of several gigabits each, which led to a load of tens of millions of packets per second." As a result, this attack is rated as the most powerful of all in all six years of resource history.

The Chinese government has already announced that China’s accusations of conducting a similar attack on WordPress.com have no basis. Unfortunately, it is not yet known what caused the DDoS attack of such power on the service. Perhaps this week will receive more detailed information.
