At the German exhibition of world technical progress for the first time presented a prototype of a personal computer with which you can work with your eyes.

The development of the tracking system is engaged in the Swedish company Tobii Technology . Its engineers for about 10 years create similar tools for scientists and people with disabilities .

The current prototype, compact and connected to a computer in a single package, works on the basis of a Lenovo laptop and its own eye tracking system, the Tobii TX 300. The device monitors the movement of the pupils using two sources of infrared radiation and two cameras that catch the light reflected from the retina to see where the person is looking at the screen. For the time being, the system needs to be calibrated for each new user (by the way, it can also be in glasses).




The optional device makes the laptop almost twice as thick. Yes, and it costs a few thousand dollars. In the photo below, the work of the system is demonstrated by Barbara Barclay, General Manager of the North American branch of the developer company.

The brainchild of the Swedes is unlikely to supplant such classic management tools as a mouse, keyboard or touch screen, but it is likely to expand the possibilities of interaction with the computer, increase the speed and efficiency of work.

For example, the machine itself will be able to determine when a person finishes reading the page to the end, and will turn it over, and in the game it will be enough to look at the enemy in order to take him to the fly.
