Yesterday, Habré already
wrote that the Internet Explorer 6
countdown site was launched, the purpose of which is to track the decrease in the use of IE6 browser share. Many people have questions, is it true that this is a Microsoft site, and why we did it. This is really our initiative.
Why did we do it right now? First, IE6 is now celebrating its 10th anniversary. Yes, yes, a whole decade has passed since the product, revolutionary for its time and absolutely outdated for today, is used by 12% of web users. Our goal is to make IE6 share
1% .
Secondly, exactly a year ago, the “
burial ” of IE6 took place, to which we sent
flowers . We, like web developers all over the world, want people to switch to more modern browsers and enjoy the
beauty of the new Internet. And we ourselves have since released the seventh and eighth versions of IE, and now the release candidate of the new Internet Explorer 9 is available, including in Russian.
')
The countdown site provides information by country - and will be updated every month. For example, in China, the share of IE6 is as much as 34.5%, whereas in Russia it is only 3.2%. We will regularly congratulate countries that have achieved a result of 1%. We also posted on the site update
instructions and a simple
example of code to paste into your websites.
Let's help domestic users and organizations to understand
why it is important to switch from old browsers to new ones!
