How the internet sent the minister to resign

After today's statement about the resignation of the Minister of Defense of Germany, we can already safely say that he was prompted by the Internet community to take this step.

It all started on the site http://de.guttenplag.wikia.com/wiki/GuttenPlag_Wiki , who took over the job of checking the minister's doctoral work for plagiarism. It should be noted that this site is built on the popular in the west platform Wikia . Here everyone can create their own little Wikipedia, gather a society and discuss various topics. So, when enough evidence of plagiarism was found in the work of the minister, all the information was published and immediately picked up and distributed by bloggers, twitter and facebook.

Articles began to appear in well-known magazines, or rather their online versions, such as Spiegel Online and Zeit.de. With the politician they began to ask and in a couple of days everyone who was interested in what was happening in the country at least 20 minutes a day learned about this story.

The institute, which issued a doctoral degree to the minister, immediately made a statement about the beginning of the investigation, and about a week later the minister himself stated that he had made a mistake and dismissed the title of doctor. Here the Internet is boiling up, on the created facebook page at the moment ~ 320.000 people support the minister. Comments to articles in news sites are flooded for tens of thousands.

As a result, it can be said that the impetus given by a small organization and picked up by the major media outlets may, at least in Germany, create such pressure on the policy that it will be forced to leave. Despite the fact that the Minister was supported by the Chancellor and the fact that Baron Karl Theodor zu Guttenberg, according to recent polls, was recognized as the most popular politician in the country.
